Learning to capitalize on all forms of currency
Loaded question, we know. Turns out, there are many ways to define value.
Living in America, it is logical to believe that money is what drives this economy. People drive the economy and money is the currency for that exchange of energy. People also possess other forms of currency that can be used to influence other aspects of our lives. Everything has value and wealth can be measured in all forms of currency.
The Good News Network Good Talks podcast¹ explores this concept as Ethan Roland identifies Eight Forms of Capital¹ which, when contemplated as a whole, helps us understand of our net worth—not just in dollars. You can listen directly to the podcast Understanding, Building and Utilizing the 8 Forms of Capital here.² You can read the original blog post here.³
We can all learn to utilize our various unique currencies:
- Spiritual, and;
- Cultural ¹
Using this framework like an ecosystem, Ethan believes for example, that social capital has connections as its currency, influencing relationships. Intellectual capital has knowledge and ideas as its currency translates into words and images that influence specific outcomes.¹
This is an interesting observation for all of us to understand how to leverage these type of currencies in our lives to help us change our circumstances and the lives of others in more positive ways. It is a different way of thinking. Read the blog or listen to the podcast to learn more about this line of thinking. What are your thoughts about this topic? How does it apply to you? How can you capitalize on your unique currency for the better?
Come as you are, leave feeling better
